1. Why do you enjoy performing at wedding receptions? Growing up in a large family instilled in me the importance of family from a young age. To be a part of a wedding reception is a great honor for me. It is the bride and groom's most important day of their lives. Their wedding needs to flow smoothly and be a wonderfully memorable experience. To be an integral part of that positive memory is a thrill every time.
2. Why do you enjoy performing at anniversaries & reunions? Anniversaries and reunions are often a chance to focus more on a given era or style. I recently did a 20 year high school reunion and got to play some great songs that I often don't get to play at weddings. I also just did an 80 year old birthday party and got to get on the floor and dance the Charleston with some of the family as well as watch the guest of honor show his stuff while dancing with his granddaughters to some classic Glen Miller.
3. How do you make sure the hosts are enjoying your performance? I am in constant communication with the hosts to make sure that they are having fun and that their every need is being met. Even if that need does not fall under my area of expertise I will make sure that it is taken care of immediately.
4. What type of personality do you have? I bridge the gap between outgoing and moderate. I would say that I am professional and give the ceremonial moments the reverence they deserve (such as the Bride and Groom's First Dance or the Father/Daughter Dance). However, when it's time to celebrate and party I am as energetic and outgoing as the hosts want me to be. Without energy and excitement from the DJ the crowd can often find it difficult to get going. By encouraging the guests in a positive way to have fun I can make sure that everyone, young and old alike, have a great time.
5. Why do you enjoy working at Complete Music? I have always been focused on providing great customer service no matter what job I held.Complete Music consistently puts the focus on this very thing. At this point in time almost every DJ out there has similar speakers, lights and music. But those things are not what makes a great DJ or what makes an event successful. It's really about the service the DJ provides and that is what Complete Music DJ's know and deliver.
6. What makes you unique as a DJ? My ability to coordinate the specifics of the reception with the other vendors and to make sure that the clients wishes are met makes me stand out. However, I have also worked to develop other skills to assist in making the night fun for everyone. Whether I'm making balloon dogs for the kids during dinner, supplying safety pins or needle and thread to a client in need or simply refilling a bride's drink when she needs it my focus is always on my clients and their guests.
7. Give an example of one of your best moments as a DJ? I will never forget the bride who arrived at her reception almost 2 hours after her ceremony and on the verge of tears. Her photographer was not doing his job and she was ready to lose it completely. I took her aside and told her that her guests were being taken care of and not to worry, I would make sure that she has a wonderful reception. Per her request I kept the photographer from needing to interact with the bride by acting as a wedding coordinator and executing the plan she had laid out in advance. At the end of the night she thanked me for turning around a day that was going in the wrong direction and making it a night to remember. It's just an example of being of service to my client.
8. What is your #1 goal at your dances? At the end of the night I want an exhausted client to say to me, "Thank you so much. You did a great job and we had a wonderful time." Great memories are what being a great DJ is all about.
