1. Why do you enjoy performing at wedding receptions?

After many years of doing weddings I still enjoy them because each one is different and each one is special.  Not to sound cliché, but it’s true.  The bride and groom are different, the crowd is different, and everyone has their own preferences as to what they want to dance to.

I enjoy being able to excel under varying sets of conditions.  That’s the bride and groom’s day and I like making it a special and unforgettable one.

2. Why do you enjoy performing at high school/college dances?

At every event, but especially dances, there’s a moment where the crowd “pops” (for lack of a better term).  Everyone in the room is dancing at full speed and loving it … that’s the moment I thrive for.

2a. Why do you enjoy performing at anniversaries & reunions?

I like seeing the people react to the music they used to listen to … everyone loves a trip down memory lane.

3. How do you make sure the hosts are enjoying your performance?

I thrive on feedback so there are several ways:  A. I always tell them beforehand that if at any point during the event they want me to do something more or different they are welcome to do so.  B. I always check with the hosts and ask if they’re having a good time and if there’s anything I can do to enhance the evening.  And C. I ask the guests when I see the opportunity.  I get information straight from the people I’m entertaining.

4. What type of personality do you have?

Different events call on different elements of my personality.  If there’s such a thing as a laid back outgoing person – that’d be me.  I am very much a people person but at the same time, I can be all business, professional, and there to get things done.  It just depends on what’s required in order for the event to run successfully.  But when all is said and done, I like to kick back and throw down.

6. What makes you unique as a DJ?

My willingness to go above and beyond my job to make sure the event happens successfully.  I genuinely care about whatever event I’m DJing and that the people enjoy themselves.  My personal preferences are always set aside for what will work for the guests.  I like to think that I have DJed under just about every condition in every circumstance and it is that collective experience that I will use when necessary to ensure a smooth and fun event.

7. Give an example of one of your best moments as a DJ?

Well, there have been several moments that stick out in my head.  I think one of the best ones was when I was DJing a wedding at a country club for about 200 – 225 guests. When I asked for a volunteer for something fun (without mentioning what it was) the bride's Grandma volunteered.  She proceeded to lead the group in a conga line of about 150 people that stretched into every room.  When it came back to the dance floor I split the line in two and, in the spirit of tradition, had grandma start a soul train line to a Michael Jackson song.  Everyone loved it.

8. What is your #1 goal at your dances?

The way I personally measure a successful event is when the people are sweaty, tired, and dying for me to play “just one more song”.  That’s how I know I’ve done my job.

What is the funniest thing that ever happened at an event?

I must first say as a pretense that I do not recommend doing the following – I personally don’t mind but it’s important to recognize that it's not for everybody.  This one was the bride’s idea.  When it was time for the garter removal we put the bride in the chair, had the groom kneel in front of her and then we blindfolded him.  As soon as he was blindfolded, we switched the bride with her grandmother.  Never in my entire life have I seen anyone jump up as fast as that groom did.  All of his military buddies thought it was a riot.

It just demonstrates how I assist in making the reception exactly what the bride and groom want (or maybe just the bride as in the case above).

What is your favorite party song?
